Sourcing Whiteboards from China: EXW, FOB, or DDP? And How We Pack for Sea Freight

Mar 31, 2026 Leave a message

If you've ever received a whiteboard shipment with bent corners or scratched surfaces - or felt confused about who pays for what when something goes wrong - you're not alone. That's exactly why we put this guide together.

At Wideny, we've helped over 100+ global buyers source whiteboards – from small classroom sets to bulk orders for distributors. One of the first questions we get from customers is: Which shipping term should I choose? And another: How do you make sure whiteboards arrive without damage?

Here's our guide, based on 10+ years of export experience. We hope it helps you make the right decision for your business.

Part 1: EXW vs. FOB vs. DDP – What We Recommend for Different Buyers

Term What It Means for You Export Customs Import Duties Best For
EXW

You pick up the goods at our

factory. You handle everything

else.

Your responsibility Your responsibility

Experienced buyers with their own

China freight forwarder

FOB

We deliver to the port (e.g., Shanghai) and

load onto vessel. You arrange

sea freight and import.

Our responsibility Your responsibility Most buyers – balanced and industry standard
DDP

We handle everything: export,

sea freight, import clearance, duties, and delivery to your door.

Our responsibility Our responsibility First-time importers or small orders who want a fixed landed cost – and avoid dealing with customs themselves

Our advice:

  • If you have a trusted forwarder in China → EXW saves costs.
  • For most regular orders → FOB is the safest, most transparent choice.
  • For trial orders (1 pallet) or if you're new to importing → DDP gives you peace of mind.

We support all three terms. Just tell us your preference, and we'll quote accordingly.

Part 2: How We Pack Whiteboards for Sea Freight (So They Arrive Perfect)
Whiteboards are large and fragile. Over the years, we've developed a packaging system that stands up to rough handling, humidity, and long ocean voyages.

Our standard sea-worthy packaging includes:

  1. Individual foam protection – Each whiteboard is wrapped in PE foam or bubble wrap to prevent scratches.
  2. Reinforced corners – Extra cardboard or plastic edge guards protect the most vulnerable part.
  3. Strong cartons – Small boards go into master cartons; large boards get individual heavy-duty cartons.
  4. Moisture barrier – Desiccant bags and poly vapor barrier inside each carton, especially for humid destinations.
  5. Palletizing (ISPM 15 certified) – Boards are strapped onto heat-treated pallets, stretch-wrapped, with no overhang.
  6. Clear labeling – "FRAGILE", "DO NOT STACK", "THIS SIDE UP", plus weight, dimensions, and your PO number.

For mobile whiteboards with stands – We ship stands knocked down (KD) in separate cartons, with all screws and tools bagged and taped inside.

What if you have special packaging requirements? – Just tell us. We offer custom packaging solutions (e.g., color boxes for retail, private label printing, foam inserts).

Part 3: A Few Practical Tips for Buyers

Ask for packaging photos before mass production. We're happy to show you how your whiteboards will be packed.

Tell us your shipping port – We mainly ship from Shanghai and Ningbo, but can also arrange from Shenzhen or Qingdao.

Plan ahead during peak season – Production slots fill up quickly from August to October and before Chinese New Year.

Need a sample? – We can send samples via air courier (DHL, FedEx) with proper inner packaging.
